Changes I'd like to see - even though you didn't ask
Firstly,
Kudos to whomever is designing the paint schemes at RGM - always very sharp and classy looking.
OK - down to my rant about Nascar - (from someone who used to watch intently, but has become a "recorder/fastforwarder")
1) We need rule changes that help level the playing field for teams. I appreciate the "no testing" rule this year (and the intent); however, high budget teams can still test on non-Nascar tracks...which still gives them a pretty significant advantage.
After I read about JGR spending $10M over the last 10 years on oil research, I thought...."well good for them, but most teams surely can't do that" (even though the findings will surely trickle down to consumers...which may be a *good* later)
2) Track selection and schedule. If I ran Nascar, the schedule would be divided into thirds. 1/3 long fast tracks, 1/3 short tracks and 1/3 road courses. We could then have a champ for each + an overall champ.
3) Figure out a way to run in the rain. Yes, I know it's more dangerous and potentially expensive...but geez - it could also drive a big uptick in viewership. Watching Indy, CART, F1, rally, etc. in the rain was really fun.
4) Re-connect with the fan with the cars. I know these cars are safer, faster and probably a whole lot more fun to drive....but, there is so little connection between what's on the track and what is available for sale. I liked when you could tell what kind of car was racing without having to look at the sticker on the nose.
I know this idea is controversial....but, I actually think it would improve the payback on the investement the manufacturers are making in the sport. To see real camry's out there....etc. It might also drive out better cars for the fans.
5) Eliminate commentators that are blatently biased. Sometimes these guys really GD irritating.
6) Evaluate each race to eliminate wins on "fuel mileage". I was at Sonoma last year (104 degrees - ick) and watched RG run out of gas even though he was by far the fastest car on the track. HELLO NASCAR! I don't want to watch drivers save gas.....I can do that everyday during my normal commute. I want them to go fast.....so...lengthen or shorten the race so that no race is "borderline" on the number of stops.
Incidentally - that Sonoma race rally soured me on the whole deal - most everyone (except RG) was working to save fuel and try to do the race on one fewer stop. As a result, I paid A LOT of money to watch a parade - no thanks.
(7) Make every race an impound race. I'm hoping here that qualifying gets done in race trim...further easing the burdon on the lower budget teams.
(8) Open the series up to other tire manufacturers. I enjoyed the days of Indy/CART where teams chose from a couple of different tire manufacturers, chassis manufacturers, etc. Again....this is an opportunity for companies to tout their ability to perform. (Kind of like Bridgestone vs. Toyo in Offroad). I don't know about you guys...but, I'm sure not buying Goodyears just because everyone in NASCAR HAS to use them.

So when they implement the 2-wide restart, then an "end of the longest line" penalty gets more severe - at least when there are multiple cars laps down. You have to race your way through the lap down cars, while your competitors on the lead lap are already in front of them.
This could change some race strategies quite a bit. I like it.

I am just as tired of the parade that lasts for hours...they don't actually get up on the wheel and RACE until the last 15 or 20 laps. I enjoyed the Allstar formula, not only the double-wide restarts but the whole formula. It would be nice to see several shorter races with points awarded and the next race inverted randomly. This would build the desire to "race" all day or night. The final showdown would be the biggie with the most points and trophy. They could really shake up the points by doing things this way. It would be nice to see a change to make it more exciting, so you want to watch from start to finish. Adds more excitement for the fans.
The fuel thing may be mandated via the Government soon...who knows...since the manufacturers are going to have to make their cars easier on the environment (with better fuel economy) we may see a change for the NASCAR series as well.
The tires well I think we all realize that is a monopoly set by the dictatorship of NASCAR. They do not seem to admire individuality at all, and penalize for it on a regular basis. I doubt we will see anything new in this line for a while. I am all for bringing in other tires, I am sure that Hoosier would LOVE to go NASCAR racing!! I can just see the advertising $$ flowing now...Congratulations to ____________for his win on Hoosier tires!
I too am sick of the biased commentators...how much can we talk about Michael Waltrip and his team?? I think they really need to branch out and cover the ENTIRE field (not just Robby) from first to last, they are all talented, let's give due time and reward the large corporations that pay top $$ to sponsor these teams and enable NASCAR to dictate so well.
Rain racing would not suit all of the drivers and would add a new realm for many, therefore great, let's challenge these guys to continue to have a learning curve. I also really enjoy the Saturday night racing...if they don't run in the rain it gives them a built in rain date plus the cars look really great under the lights!

The Planet's own Garret Gleason is responsable for some the paint schemes,And RGM cars are the sharpest appearing on the tour.
Fuel milage stratagy is just another statagy,it SUCKS when the whole field is trying it.

I disagree with the impound race idea. Pretty ridiculous how 8 teams have to run their qualifying setup all day long unless they take it to the garage 10 laps into the race. Let them use the qualifying setups on Friday, and set up their cars on Saturday. Get rid of impound races all together. Especially on the superspeedways.
