During the Sirius/XM NASCAR Catchfence show this morning callers were once again posing the question, "should their be a road course race in The Chase?" The callers and hosts debated the pros and cons to why and why not. Then the question was asked to the hosts, if the drivers were in equal cars with equal teams who would be the dominate driver at Sonoma and Watkins Glen. The host immediately stated, "This may surprise the audience, but as good as Kurt Busch and Marcos Ambrose is. Lots of great road aces like Boris Said and Ron Fellows would do better with better equipment, but Robby Gordon was probably the best driver on a road course hands down. When he had solid equipment like RCR's he was dominant and when he had under funded equipment he was still a threat. He is so versatile and has so much car control, he's the one driver that would dominate if everyone was on equal equipment. He can really wheel a car.
It was awesome to hear! I also heard yesterday a hosts state, "Robby not being at Sonoma is such a shame. It's like Dale Junior not racing at Talladega. It's what people come to see. Robby belongs here."

Yes, those were the days ... best forgotten
It's on my putter backround, been there ever since that race
For what its worth. I haven't watched a NASCAR race since RG left except checking the past road course just to see if he had gotten a ride. Regardless of the equipment he competed in, it didn't matter to me. I was always cheering for #7. I had a driver, someone that you either hated or loved. A driver you couldn't go to your local diecast store and buy a replica of his car, but he was my driver. The underdog, underfunded, and under appreciated but my driver. He may have a great stadium truck gig, Baja, or Dakar, but I miss watching him on Sundays.
I'd love to see how Robby would do in Knockout Qualifying at a road course. I remember so many times he had to run conservative qualifying lap to make the show. Now he can run that and then go balls to the wall on the 2nd lap. Love how Goodyear has brought tires that wear down quicker too.
If the rules of today were in place for when RGM was racing it could have been alot different. Better qualifying opportunities and WIN & IN would have made for some crazy road and plate races for RGM.
No $hit.
Did you catch the entry list for this weekend's race? Only 42 entered. If it stays that way and owners like Penske doesn't add the #12 car then you know it is just not worth it.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but did anyone even really notice Boris Said driving the #32 7-Eleven car? Too bad RG never go that sponsor, pretty sure someone mocked that paint scheme in the past. Even the great Boris couldn't wheel that underfunded equipment to a top 20 finish.
Sucks not seeing RG out there at Sonoma, but he is far better off without it.
Say what? http://bit.ly/Tgq0aK
JGR not having a good week.
Just my opinion... wouldn't be a far idea that M&M's has sponsorship in place for both drivers. Partial schedule with Kyle and Monster / Interstate / Pedigree/ Doublemint/ Skittles/ Snicker's picking up the rest or with both drivers. I remember when they sponsored David Gilliland and Ricky Rudd (M&M's car and Snicker's machine).
Kyle's comments makes you wonder.
This is interesting as I see Kyle not likening the idea of Carl as a teammate, but one of his biggest sponsors going to him will cause even more reason for Kyle to resent him more. even if they split the sponsorship I don't see them doing ads together. Gibbs is going to implode.
M&M's, Doublemint, Skittles, Snicker's and Pedigree Petfoods are all part of some of the 80+ brands owned by Mars, Inc.
