# Robby penalized for rear axle: NASCAR has issued penalties to the #7 team that competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as a result of rules violations committed at Lowe’s Motor Speedway earlier this week. The #7 car, driven and owned by Robby Gordon, was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4I (any determination by NASCAR Officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-10.6H (rear axle housing exceeded the maximum specified toe of plus or minus one degree) of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rule Book. The violation was found during post-race inspection on May 25. As a result, Gordon has been penalized with the loss of 50 championship owner and 50 championship driver points. Crew chief Kirk Almquist has been fined $50,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.(NASCAR PR)(5-27-2009)

Yeah, could've been worse, but why take chances that cost the team in the end? Now they know the limits of the toe? Hmmm....was that a mystery before this?

Shortcuts and taking chances on grey areas are only beneficial if they don't cost points, money, and probation, OR if you truly don't need to worry about ANY of those things.
According to one report, Nascar now takes the Top 2 finishers of each race and one random car to tear down the engine and fully inspect. Due to the fact 3 cars stayed out and Robby's car had not been post race observed for some time, they took the Top 3. Unfortunatley for Robby it cost him a penalty.

Like TOG said "It is what it is!" It could hav eeasily been 100 points, 50 points less is still equal to a better finish then what Robby would have had.

The next 6 races are more suitable for Robby to gain points: Dover, Pocono, Michigan, Sonoma, Loudon & Daytona! This is where Robby needs to build on his finishes, keep the car clean & get points!

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In a move that NASCAR hopes will serve as a cost-cutting measure, the series has announced plans to begin conducting its post-race engine teardowns at the NASCAR Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C.

“Along with cost savings, this will provide our officials and teams with the means to analyze the engines in a more controlled setting,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. “We have been moving towards doing this in the past, and as the stakes continue to rise in our sport, we believe it’s the most effective way of doing things.”

During post-race inspection, NASCAR typically tears down the engines of the events top-two finishers in addition to a random car. The height and weight measurements, as well as the shock and gear inspections, will still take place at the track following the event.

Post-race inspection will remain open to observation just as in the past and any violation found during the teardown process will be handled as it has been through the NASCAR competition department.

Okay - this is bizarre.

Last year, the whole Dodge nose controversy - they rescind the points but still make Kerr pay the ($150,000?) fine.

And now the fine here is much less than what Kerr had to pay for a penalty that was rescinded?

If this were Ryan Newman - 25 points would have been the fine.
My concern is...does this have anything to do with Robby running better this year? If so does this mean they go back to the drawing board?
That is my fear Tim.....I guess well will find out soon!
Could be worse, car's in one piece - focus on the next race!
