Getting lots of conflicting stories about RGM's future for 2009. Hearing 1 of 3 scenarios likely to take place, but alot depends on Menard's decision.

If Menard opts to stay with DEI, Inc., Robby would join DEI and take over the #01 (becoming the #7) in 2009. Giving DEI Truex, Menard, Gordon & Almirola for it's lineup in 2009. Regan Smith would likely run full time in the Nationwide or (if Gordon finishes inside the Top 35 along with the #01, the #01 could run under RGM's banner (pending sponsorship).

If Menard chooses to join Yates Racing then Robby could join DEI but, would need to find sponsorship to replace Menards (possibly Monster?)

or (new twist) hearing after the test at Charlotte, Penske could be a strong possibility. Robby felt very good after the test with his Penske power, and with drivers David Stremme and Sam Hornish still unproven in the Cup ranks, Robby would be in position to replace Newman at Penkse's top along side Kurt Busch.

Supposivley Menard should have a decision soon with an official announcement at Dega or Charlotte.

Robby is far from being locked into the top 35.
I have a feeling many things are tied to finishing in or outside the top 35.
All indications were GEM motors for the the charlotte test.
LOL!

At first I thought that was another Penske motor going up!
One attractive thing about Penske is that Roger is so rich, he doesn't need full sponsorship to run a team. He said so himself earlier in the year. If Robby's a few races short then they'll throw a Penske Trucking scheme on the #7 and keep on rolling.
It's not like John Menard is begging for change on the corner....
True, but John Menard is not DEI. John has been known to be notoriously cheap, despite his big wallet. No other owner in the garage could afford to do that other than Roger.

If John was the owner he could afford to do that...don't know that he would unless his son was involved.
I am pretty sure Robby could end up with any team (excluding GEM) and perform better than he did this year.
So is RGM being a two car team next year out of the question?
Are we going to see RGM in victory lane this season? Anything is possible, but not likely. We seem to be watching the slow death of a dream.
was told he used Penske engines...maybe it was the information and discussions with Penske, only report what I'm told... I was not at the test, maybe somebody can verify that for us.

Robby definitely sounded pumped after the test and has a little swagger back in him...
100% GEM motors during the test.
