Scott Riggs Looking at Pocono

While still unofficial, it appears that Scott Riggs will be the odd man out at Stewart-Haas. Riggs had been talking to several teams about opportunities in 2009. According to NASCAR.com, he's 99.99999 percent sure he won't be back with the team.

Meanwhile Joe Custer, the team's manager, stated that "no one's out" and expects a decision on the driver lineup next week (www.NASCAR.com).

While Riggs hasn't finalized anything yet, he is still looking for a Sprint Cup ride and is working hard to secure one. If the rumor about State Water Heaters staying with Riggs as a package deal is true, with our economy in shambles right now it could be a blessing for him and an incentive for a team to sign him. One on the radr might be
Robby Gordon Motorsports.

Riggs would be a benefit for Robby by adding a teammate and making him more competitive. If Gordon wants a teammate, I can't see him passing on the package of Riggs/State Water Heaters. Gordon has a new shop with space for a 2nd team.

two is better than one and sponsors and money have to be apealling but after the scanner sunday
robby was clearly not happy with the dodge powerplant. I hope we get the one car better before bringing two of them to the track.
Said it before,& I'll say it again...Robby doesn't have all the same drivetrain parts as GEM. Those straights @Pocono, just happen to make the diff magnified to 150%.
The diff is mainly price, which could be fixed with a monitery injection. Again, Rob needs to concentrate his efforts to getting sponsors,& driving the car.
For his off-road team, Robby has the best in the business, and they are succesful. His Nascar team doesn't have the same situation, and money may or may not bring more talent in the shop, for alot of reasons. You know how you feel when a new person starts at your place of employment? It takes a while for everyone to get used to each other, and sometimes it never happens. You just have to work through the cycle until the positions are filled with people that communicate and work well together, and then your company kicks ass. The shop crew needs to work together to get through these bad times and they'll be fine. Have a party, lower the stress, get everyone happily working together so the ideas are flowing, and things will get better. It doesn't matter how good you are, when things are stressful and it starts getting into your head, you will suck, so you need to alleviate the stress. It's not the CC, it's not the motor guys, it's not the painter, the promo department, or the suspension guys. They can all do their part just fine, but they need to do it together. Clearly Robby knows how to put a team together, and how to build cars - look at the success the off-road team has. The Nascar team needs to stay focused and keep developing the 'people' side of the race team they have now. Another car/driver in the garage will just complicate the issue, it's not time for that until the existing team is stable and kicking ass. When that happens, the money will be there also.

I think you are absolutely right about team building and working together. The problem with having only one team is you can only try one setup at a time at the race track. If Riggs comes with sponsorship that will be good for Robby's team too. Those dollars can, in some ways, be shared by both teams. It looks like a win/win to me. The only problem might be getting the right people in there. But that might not be as much of a problem because of the economy.
Actually Blues, Rob needs a new shock guy. I think theres currently a vacancy in that dept.
You're dead on with the team definitely needing a morale boost though.
Suspension seems to be the downfall lately for sure. If they have a vacancy, fill it and let the cycle begin to determine if they found the right person...

Normally, companies that are struggling don't focus on growth...they focus on "righting" the ship..... Obviously, RGM can compete at this level....IMO they need to find consitency..once that happens..I think you look at adding a team./..
Robby's off road team is decent. It's RG behind the wheel that make that team a win or break deal.

No. The results from the last several weeks would not support any part of "decent"

I hate being a Monday Quarterback but there are several things that should take place at RGM... However, I think focus and leadership need to be addressed before any REAL process' can be implemented.

I don't think cash-flow is a major issue. I think from my real world experience at several outfits, respect from the shop to the "leaders" may not exist at RGM. (Not RG)

I've seen the egos at the shop level in so many places deny the process' from being implemented.

Just seems like the guys with the wrench or welder think they run the show. Recipe for disaster is what that is. It takes social engineers to break that barrier down.

There truly are specialists for this type of shit all over the place and they don't need to know shit about racing, cars, or welding they are just good solid managers.

That's damned good Fly! The only reason I suspect cash is because of things like skimping on testing (Pocono). I am encouraged by him testing 2 days at Road Atlanta but that was for both Cup and Nationwide series.
