Norra Day 4 Recap.
The technology in these cars that prevent engine failure have lived up to the demands of baja and Max Gordon. The silt beds in yesterday’s stage clogged Max”s air filter and CVT, but the ecu new that it wasn’t getting enough air in relation to the throttle position and it would not let Max run wide open the second half of yesterday’s stage. After taking some time last night to change the air filter and clean the clutches Max is ready for the final stage and is planning on charging to the finish.
Max had no issues all day with the exception of a clogged air filter. It slowed him down in the fast sections, but he still had a great 280 mile day only to run out of gas 3 miles from the finish. He was able to make it to the finish with the help of some fans a splash of gas.
The El Jefe was driven by a close friend yesterday as Robby and Todd tried to find a missing bolt and bracket to his power steering pump. Todd finished day 3 with a great second stage, and we did not realize until the morning that he had an issue. We inspected the car yesterday morning prior to the start of Day 5, and realized we had a issue. Both Robby and Todd spent 3 hours trying to modify the mounting of the pump so he could start the day, but could not get the car done and missed the start. We are trying to get it fixed so he can run Day 5 to Cabo.
The El Jefe had a flawless day with a new driver and navigator, and it shows the team work and dedication of Robby to stay with Todd and give up his car.
FYI we had several friends and mechanic’s registered for this race and by doing so anyone can drive or navigate. This is what makes NORRA such an amazing race. You can change driver, navigators and cars as long as you are registered. Hope you all join us next year.
